Stolen medieval saint's skull recovered in Czech Republic
Czech police recovered an 800-year-old relic believed to be the skull of Saint Zdislava, stolen from a basilica and encased in concrete. A suspect arrested confessed to the theft and planned to discard the artifact in a river.
The relic, belonging to Saint Zdislava of Lemberk, was stolen from a glass shrine in the basilica of St Lawrence and St Zdislava in Jablonné v Podještědí on Tuesday. The suspect was arrested after admitting to removing the 800-year-old skull from the church. Police are currently working with experts to extract the recovered relic from the concrete encasement without causing damage to this historically significant artifact.
