Villa Arson Retrospective on Nathalie Magnan
Villa Arson presents a retrospective survey of Nathalie Magnan (1956–2016), a pioneering cyberfeminist, media theorist, and hacktivist whose multidisciplinary practice shaped discourse on technology and LGBTQI+ activism. The exhibition "Magnanrama" documents her role as mediator across art, feminism, and internet culture.
Magnan's career defied conventional categorization: simultaneously an educator, webmistress, filmmaker, and theorist, she navigated digital networks and marine environments with equal commitment to political intervention. Though she resisted the designation "artist," her practice profoundly influenced contemporary understandings of cyberfeminism, hacktivist culture, and the politics of technological mediation. The retrospective positions her interdisciplinary contributions—spanning technology, feminism, and LGBTQI+ struggles—as foundational to late-20th-century thought.
