Alahattin Kanlioğlu on Inle Lake Moment
Turkish photographer Alahattin Kanlioğlu captures a striking image of fishermen and monks at Inle Lake in Myanmar's Shan Hills during a 2025 workshop visit. The photograph documents the region's distinctive fishing techniques and floating communities.
Alahattin Kanlioğlu, a photography specialist who taught communications at Ege University in Izmir for over two decades, captured this compelling image during a December 2025 return visit to Myanmar. The photograph documents Inle Lake, where local fishermen employ the distinctive technique of foot-controlled oars, allowing them to keep hands free for their catch. The image also depicts the region's unique settlement patterns, with homes built on stilts or floating directly on the water. Kanlioğlu led a photography workshop with a group of six, positioning the expedition as both educational and documentary in nature, capturing vernacular practices that define the region's livelihood.
