Richter and Judd Lead Christie's Post-War Sale
Christie's sold works from the Marian Goodman and Henry S. McNeil Jr. estates, with Gerhard Richter paintings and Minimalist sculptures driving results. The sale achieved solid but unspectacular overall performance.
A Christie's evening sale featured a significant collection of Gerhard Richter works previously held by late dealer Marian Goodman, as well as canonical Minimalist sculptures from collector Henry S. McNeil Jr.'s estate. The Richter works totaled $78.8 million, while the McNeil sculptures contributed $25.9 million to the overall sale total of $162.7 million. Despite strong individual performances by these marquee artists, the sale was characterized as solid rather than stellar, suggesting moderate buyer enthusiasm across the broader post-war and contemporary market.
