Dance piece examines Lee Krasner's artistic legacy
Choreographer Antonia Franceschi presents "Uncaged+" at The Mount Without, Bristol through May 22, featuring the work "Prophecy" on Lee Krasner's life and relationship with Jackson Pollock. The piece blends dance-theatre with voiceover and music by Claire van Kampen.
Antonia Franceschi, a former New York City Ballet dancer who performed with George Balanchine's company, directs this evening of dance-theatre at The Mount Without. The program opens with "Excerpts from Kinderszenen," a neo-Balanchine work, before moving to the central piece "Prophecy," still in development. Created with writer and director Sara Joyce, "Prophecy" constructs a dual portrait addressing how Lee Krasner's artistic reputation has been historically overshadowed by her marriage to Jackson Pollock. Krasner's own words and Pollock's texts are read as voiceover throughout, centering her agency and artistic voice.
