Jack Goldstein Retrospective Opens in Winterthur
The Kunst Museum Winterthur presents "Pictures, Sounds and Movies", a comprehensive exhibition of Jack Goldstein's work. The show examines the Pictures Generation pioneer's multimedia practice.
Jack Goldstein (1945–2003), born in Montreal and trained at CalArts, stands as a central figure in the Pictures Generation movement of the 1970s. The generation rejected traditional art media, instead appropriating imagery from advertising, television and mass culture. Goldstein's practice synthesized Minimal Art principles with appropriation strategies, exploring how images function autonomously within contemporary visual culture. The exhibition traces his evolution across photography, video, performance and sound work.
