This Is Fucking Disneyland
Monopol reports on an exhibition that critiques spectacle, commercialism, and the aestheticization of experience in contemporary culture. The work interrogates entertainment and theme-park logic as dominant cultural forms.
This exhibition takes aim at the pervasive aesthetics of entertainment and consumptive spectacle that characterize contemporary culture. Using Disneyland as a conceptual touchstone, the work critiques how experience itself has become commodified and packaged for consumer enjoyment. The exhibition examines the visual and ideological strategies through which commercial entertainment colonizes social space and structures desire. By invoking Disneyland's particular brand of immersive artificial experience, the artist engages with broader questions about authenticity, commercialism, and the selling of fantasy as lived experience in late capitalism.
