Perry life story becomes stage musical
A new musical tells Grayson Perry's life from Chelmsford childhood through Turner Prize victory and international fame as ceramicist and tapestry artist. Collaborators include the composer of Jerry Springer: The Opera; Perry's teddy bear Alan Measles also features.
Grayson the Musical, co-created with the composer of the acclaimed Jerry Springer: The Opera, presents a theatrical biography of the Turner Prize-winning artist. The production spans Perry's trajectory from his childhood in Essex to his establishment as an internationally recognized ceramicist, tapestry-maker, and distinctive fashion practitioner. The show incorporates Perry's signature visual language, including elaborate dress and distinctive personal style. Alan Measles, the six-foot teddy bear that has appeared prominently in Perry's artistic practice and performances, takes a supporting role described as providing "life coaching." The musical is characterized as exploring themes of identity, creativity, and self-acceptance through theatrical and visual means.
